Boscastle Information

Boscastle (In cornish Kastell Boterel) is a harbour village in North Cornwall. It has an amazing natural harbour that attracts tourists and walker from around the world. The name is derived from a 12th century fortress - Bottreaux Castle - of which very little remains. The harbour was further protected by two stone harbour walls in 1584 by Sir Richard Grenville.

Boscastle has always been a popular destination for sight see-ers and walkers, and was made more well known by thge BBC television programme, a seaside parish, centred around the local Vicar.

The Visitors Centre is a great source of local information.

In 2004, freak weather caused a disastrous flood, that did much damage to Boscastle and the surrounding area, the village has now been restored and hopefully the new measures put in place by the environment agency, will preven future problems.
